My Contents Page Images (school magazine)

I think i will use these images for the Contents Page,

My Front Cover Image For School Magazine

I don't want to use this photo because it is not suitable for what image i want to give off the school, I want Rebecca to be holding some school books
This is my favourite photo that i want on my front cover. It needs to be a medium shot not a long shot so i am going to crop and edit the photo. Rebecca is holding the school books and a bag
I have also boosted the colour, I like this one as she is smiling which gives off a positive view of the school, She is holding a bag and school books which i think represents the school well. I have left enough room above for the masthead and there is room at the sides for my featured articles.
I think the colour of the leaves also reflects the edition it is which is "Autumn 2011" It looks very natural,

Masthead for School Magazine

Why have i decided to call my magazine 'FRESH'
I have decided to use the word 'FRESH' because it is for the target demographic audience I am appealing to, the word 'FRESH' is a colloquialism - a slang word which a certain niche audience uses (ages 16-19 which is the target audience for my magazine) The word FRESH means 'good'
FRESH can also be seen in wider connotations such as 'a fresh start' (something new, which i want my magazine to look like) or freshers week at university.

The OCR AS Media Course

The OCR AS MEDIA COURSE
Our course is arranged into two units
1.Tv Drama + Film Industry
2.Sixth from magazine front cover+Music Magazine
We will look at many media texts from either televison or radio

MEDIA LANGUAGE-
Media laguage refers to written, verabl, non-verbal, aural and aesthetic communication, Over time, we come to expect certain styles of filming, acting, editing and sound for certain types of programmes

FORM AND STYLE-
The form of a media text is its shape and structure, The form is insrantly recognisable to the audience, ef a soap opera or historical drama

CONVENTION-
Convention means 'ingrediants' of a particular form or genre.

SIGNIFICATION-
Normally applied with the study of signs, Everything we see if a sign and carries a meaning. For example the skull and cross bones sign can either be a denotation(signifer) or a connotation (signified) which depends on the audience. eg in this case it would mean something completely different to a cleaner than it would to an 8 year old boy. Every signifier has the potential to be given meaning differently by every person who sees or hears it (eg.HOLLITSTER-POLYSEMIC)

REPRESENTATION-
We see media as mediating, Our job is to deconstruct representations already in place from the music.

AUDIENCES-
Looking for the 'target audience'- also looking for the 'secondary audiences' and the ways that different people respond to texts.

NARRATIVE AND GENRE-
The news is presented through a particular marrative structure.Narrative describes the process of balancing what we actually see or hear and what we assume. Different Genres-(enigma -mystery) (subvert- cause trouble) (parody-make fun of) (hybrid - join 2 together to make fun of eg. scary movie)

CREATIVITY-
We will use digital technology. We need to interest and engage the audience with our creativity, (when you analyse texts you will work out what these decisions were)

CONNECTING THE MICRO TO THE MACRO-
Mirco elements are are the technical and sumbolic features, eg lighting.   (Verisimiltude- does it look real). All the Micro equals the Macro

MULTIMODAL LITERACY-
Technology allows us to read and write and create in new ways.

My Photos, Before and after editing

My Photo Editing

This is a photo I took of Lucy before editing which is my favourite picture out of all the ones that I took on that day.
This is Lucy after editing, Using 'black+white' and also the 'colour boost' . I like that Lucy is the main focus of interest and you have the reflection of the window in the background. I think it looks professional and shows off the camera as the logo "canon" stands out of the picture when you open the picture bigger.
Here is the other photo i liked that i am going to edit of Tyra and Rosie smiling whilst walking past when we were taking photographs outside the school buildings.
Here i cropped the photo, focusing mainly on the Girls, I also boosted the colour which made a really nice contrast of the green to the colour of their hair.

How to take a good photograph

1. Composition ( most important ) what is including within the frame the Rule of Thirds
positioning of camera ( in relation to subject)
2. Focus ( what's blurry and what's not) Using the correct depth of field
3. Lighting- Direction of the sun
4.Camera Angle
