The OCR AS Media Course

The OCR AS MEDIA COURSE
Our course is arranged into two units
1.Tv Drama + Film Industry
2.Sixth from magazine front cover+Music Magazine
We will look at many media texts from either televison or radio

MEDIA LANGUAGE-
Media laguage refers to written, verabl, non-verbal, aural and aesthetic communication, Over time, we come to expect certain styles of filming, acting, editing and sound for certain types of programmes

FORM AND STYLE-
The form of a media text is its shape and structure, The form is insrantly recognisable to the audience, ef a soap opera or historical drama

CONVENTION-
Convention means 'ingrediants' of a particular form or genre.

SIGNIFICATION-
Normally applied with the study of signs, Everything we see if a sign and carries a meaning. For example the skull and cross bones sign can either be a denotation(signifer) or a connotation (signified) which depends on the audience. eg in this case it would mean something completely different to a cleaner than it would to an 8 year old boy. Every signifier has the potential to be given meaning differently by every person who sees or hears it (eg.HOLLITSTER-POLYSEMIC)

REPRESENTATION-
We see media as mediating, Our job is to deconstruct representations already in place from the music.

AUDIENCES-
Looking for the 'target audience'- also looking for the 'secondary audiences' and the ways that different people respond to texts.

NARRATIVE AND GENRE-
The news is presented through a particular marrative structure.Narrative describes the process of balancing what we actually see or hear and what we assume. Different Genres-(enigma -mystery) (subvert- cause trouble) (parody-make fun of) (hybrid - join 2 together to make fun of eg. scary movie)

CREATIVITY-
We will use digital technology. We need to interest and engage the audience with our creativity, (when you analyse texts you will work out what these decisions were)

CONNECTING THE MICRO TO THE MACRO-
Mirco elements are are the technical and sumbolic features, eg lighting.   (Verisimiltude- does it look real). All the Micro equals the Macro

MULTIMODAL LITERACY-
Technology allows us to read and write and create in new ways.
